Volunteer Position Descriptions

Recurring Volunteers:

  • VES Garden: Meet at garden next to playground after Walking Wednesdays to work in the garden. Help plant, weed, harvest and maintain our vegetable garden.
  • Garden “Workdays”: Assist on Organized Garden Work Days, dates TBA, on which larger garden projects will be completed. No gardening experience necessary.
  • Great Art: Become a docent and teach/present artists and art projects in the classroom on a scheduled, monthly basis. All presentation information and project supplies are provided.
  • Library: Help shelve and check out books and/or assist in the library.
  • New Family Outreach: Help welcome new families into our VES community.  Assist in organizing events, answering questions, and providing support in hopes to make new families feel more comfortable and informed about our school.
  • Odyssey of the Mind: Coach students during the Fall/Winter for the Odyssey of the Mind Spring Competition.
  • Read-A-Thon: Assist with coordinating and planning the Read-A-Thon and/or the Read-A-Thon school celebration.
  • Safe Routes to School: Support events sponsoring walking/biking to school.
  • Teacher/Staff Appreciation: Assist with monthly teacher luncheons including food donations and/or help with set up & clean up. Help with Teacher Appreciation Week.
  • Virginia Readers Choice: Help the Reading Specialist tally responses, develop bulletin boards, organize end of year celebration and assist in this great year long reading program.
  • VES 5K/1 Mile Fun Run: Join one of many race committees for help with pre, during, or post-race events. This is the PTA’s main fundraiser and requires many volunteers doing a wide variety of jobs.
  • Walking Wednesdays: Help set up and man the coffee/token table before school on Wednesday mornings.
  • Wednesday Folders: Help prepare weekly folders twice a month on Wednesday mornings. Check with your child’s teacher for more information.

One Time Event Volunteers:

  • Bingo Night: Help with set-up/clean-up, work the sign-in table, run the raffle, and work the prize table.
  • Curriculum Night: Help set-up/clean-up, and working of dessert and beverage table during our school’s busy curriculum night.
  • Fall/Spring Pictures: Help students line up and spruce up for photos in the Spring and/or Fall.
  • Faculty Basketball Game: Help plan, organize, or assist during the Spring Faculty Basketball game.
  • Field Day:  Help P.E. teacher set-up, clean-up and/or run games for this all day event in the Spring.
  • PTA Family Dance: Assist with organizing the evening, setup and clean up.
  • PTA Family Social Events: Help plan, organize, and assist during family social events.
