VES Garden

The VES Garden is the result of a unique partnership with Vienna Elementary School, the Town of Vienna, and local businesses and community organizations.

The goals of the garden programs at VES are to provide outdoor education experiences for all VES students and to enhance the beauty and health of the outdoor spaces surrounding VES.

Salad Science at VES

This spring our second graders participated in a project called Salad Science, a start-to-finish lettuce growing experience.  Students planted lettuce seeds, watered their plants, recorded growth, and eventually harvested the lettuce themselves.  The project ended with a Salad Party, where students enjoyed eating their freshly harvested greens .   Thanks to all of the teachers and staff who supported this project, all parent volunteers who helped with the project, from salad table building to planting, watering, harvesting and serving the lettuce, and to Sheets Lumber and Whole Foods Vienna for their contributions.  Special mention to Jen Tabbal for coordinating the project, Dan Thrush for his building expertise, and Mrs. Frimpong for her help in the lettuce preparation.
