- Read-A-Thon 2012 starts January 30th! Students will be tracking reading time on VES bookmarks and working towards meeting class goals to earn Class Bookplates to be placed in VES Library books in the Fall and a Class Read-A-Thon celebration. Click here for more detailed information. New this year, starting January 30th, you will also be able to donate specific books for the VES Library through www.pay4schoolstuffonline.com.

Virginia Reader's Choice (VRC) Program 2011-2012. This is an annual program to encourage young readers. The program concludes in the spring when students vote for their favorite book. The VRC is an optional program offered by the library and supported by the PTA. Click here for a list of books and for the reporting form.

Does your Employer Match Gifts to Charitable Organizations? Consider a donation to the VES PTA. We're a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations (not dues) are fully tax deductible and eligible for employer matching gift programs.
Resolution to Improve School Food at Fairfax County Public Schools - The VES PTA unanimously passed a resolution to support this initiative at the September PTA meeting. Please review the resolution that will represent Vienna Elementary and feel free to share the information with your friends from other Fairfax County schools. If you are interested in supporting these efforts please contact Laura Goyer for additional information.

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is committed to helping provide our children with safe walking routes to school by working with the Town of Vienna on current and future sidewalk projects. SRTS will promote walking and biking to school by supporting Metro DC's Get Out of Your Car Day (September), International Walk to School Day (October) and the Vienna Bike/Walk to School Challenge (May). SRTS also hopes to establish a one a month Bike Bus starting in May, a Bike Rodeo and a biking education program.

Typically, one of the top concerns with voters is education. Your Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is a great way to get involved. We meet the 3rd Monday of each month in the Library at 7PM . . . Please come join us!

The purpose of the Vienna Elementary PTA is to:
- Promote the welfare of children and youth in the school
- Bring into closer relation the home and the school, so that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
- Develop a unified effort between educators and the general public to secure for all children the highest advantages in physical, mental and social education
WAYS TO SUPPORT US
- JOIN: It's a great way to support your school, your teachers and your kids

- 5K Fun Run and 1M walk: This is our largest fundraiser. Please signup, help, and/or recruit runners!
- Safeway eScrip: Let your shopping help fund the PTA. Register or renew your Safeway card today!
- Target Red Card: Shoppping helps fund your School! Register your Redcard today!
- Giant Bonus Bucks: Shop and a percentage goes to your PTA - so simple - just register your card
- Federal Campaign: Consider designating Vienna Elementary PTA - CFC # 37450
- Box Tops for Education: Simply collect box tops and deposit them in the collection box in the main office. Each one is worth 10 cents for our school.
- Dine Out Night: Participating Vienna Resturants will contribute a percentage of the bill to our PTA
- TerraCycle - This program helps recycle CapriSun and Honest Kids juice pouches and raise money. VES receives money for each pouch collected.
